Safety Management for Women Scientists

Safety Management for Women Scientists project is to spread the need to consider the gender differences in a laboratory environment

Aims to change the male-oriented point of view in the Safety Management education curriculum to make a better research environment for men and women in the laboratory.

This project is implemented by the Safety Management Committee for Women Scientists; Each member of the committee has considerable expertise in their areas; Architecture, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Safety and Security, Semiconductor and Radiology. The committee was established in 2015, it continues its research in Safety Management.

2015

Published booklets and pamphlets on safety guidelines for women scientists

Distributed 1,000 promotional materials to universities, research institutes, academies, member institutes etc.

Participated as panel discussant in research conferences

2016

Renamed the committee to expand its research boundary and initiated research project on working environment of women scientists and engineers

Published and distributed 8,000 safety guideline pamphlets written in Korean and English with its update on working in hospitals and construction sites

Chairman Aree Moon attended Asian Conference on Safety and Education in Laboratory 2016 to introduce and promote Safety Management Committee for Women Scientists

Created educational video on safety guideline in a laboratory working environment for women scientists

Held a UCC competition to promote the need for safety education in a laboratory working environment for young women scientists and engineers in their child bearing years

2017

Conducted a survey to identify safety problems women scientist and engineers experience working in universities and research institutes (samples size; 1,791)

Booklet including the result of the survey and the research by the committee is to be published in October 2017

A press conference is scheduled to be held in September 2017
